48 Hours in Dubai: A First-Timer's Itinerary
Two days, zero wasted hours. A realistic Dubai itinerary that pairs the headline skyline with old-city soul, and one desert night you'll never forget.

Day one: Downtown, then the desert
Begin at the Dubai Mall the moment it opens, ride to the At the Top deck of the Burj Khalifa before the haze sets in, then watch the Dubai Fountain from the waterfront promenade. By early afternoon you've covered the city's two most photographed sights with time to spare.
Use the late afternoon for an evening desert safari. A 4x4 collects you from your hotel, you ride the dunes at golden hour, and you finish over a barbecue under the stars at a Bedouin-style camp. It is the single most efficient way to feel like you've truly left the city behind.
Day two: Old Dubai and the creek
Cross Dubai Creek on a one-dirham abra and lose an hour in the Gold and Spice Souks of Deira. Then walk the restored coral-and-gypsum lanes of Al Fahidi, where the Dubai Museum and a dozen tucked-away courtyard cafes explain how a pearling village became a global city.
Save the Marina for sunset. A traditional dhow glides past the yachts and towers of the new waterfront while dinner is served on deck, a clean bookend to a trip that started 828 metres up.
What to lock in before you land
Burj Khalifa slots and desert safari pickups sell out first, so book those two anchors in advance and leave meals and shopping flexible. Everything else in Dubai can be arranged the day before.
Keep transfers in mind: most desert camps sit 45 to 60 minutes from Downtown, so a sunset safari effectively claims your whole evening. Plan the rest of that day to be light.
